Job Opening: Postdoc in Advanced Characterization of Nano-structured Materials

Job description

The initial focus for this Postdoc position will be to investigate nano-structured energy materials with an emphasize on nano-platelets of both Na- and Li-ion battery compounds. The samples will be provided both from our international collaborators as well as through in-house synthesis at the Department of Applied Physics of KTH. The studies will mainly be performed using neutron scattering and muon spin rotation/relaxation (m+SR), but also x-ray and electrochemical techniques could be of interest. The main duty of the recruited postdoc will be to take responsibility for such experiments as well as to co-supervise participating PhD students. In addition to the planned project, the successful candidate is expected to contribute with his/her own ideas and network. The postdoc is hereby strongly encouraged to bring in an independent line of research into our team. Further, there are also additional possibilities for parallel and related developments. One example could be technical instrumentation and sample synthesis linked to collaborations with the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden.

The position includes a strong research program conducted as a collaboration between the KTH divisions of Materials Physics (host), Biomedical & X-ray Physics and Theoretical Physics. The postdoc will be employed in the group for Sustainable Materials Research & Technologies (SMaRT).

The project is further part of a wide national (e.g. Uppsala University) and international network with links to Switzerland (ETH Zurich and PSI), Japan (Toyota CRDL and J-PARC) as well as United Kingdom (STFC and Queen Mary University of London). Finally, part of the postdoc duties also involve assisted PhD student supervision linked to the Swedish national graduate school in neutron scattering, SwedNess.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a doctoral education in Physics. The PhD degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.
