SNSS is an organisation open to all those who are using, or interested in the use of, neutron scattering techniques. There are currently about 150 members. SNSS is affiliated to the European Neutron Scattering Association (ENSA). The membership fee has been maintained at 0 SEK since the foundation of the society. The text of the revised rules (in Swedish) adopted on 27 August 2012 at the 16th Annual Meeting in Stockholm is as follows:
Statutes of the Swedish Neutron Scattering Society
The Swedish Neutron Spread Society (SNSS) is an association of users, and others interested in neutron scattering and related technologies. SNSS will provide a forum for discussion and information exchange on neutron spread and promote the interests of neutron spread users.
(i) To stimulate and promote the use of neutron scattering.
(ii) To stimulate scientific exchange within the neutron scattering field.
(iii) To promote exchanges and relationships between users from different scientific disciplines.
(iv) To operate for industrial applications of neutron scattering.
(v) To work for relations with other national and international organizations within the neutron scattering field.
(vi) To identify and act for Neutron Spray users' need for access to neutron sources in Sweden and abroad.
(vii) To support young researchers in the neutron scattering field.
(viii) To promote dissemination of information both in the field and outwards towards the scientific community, industry and communities.
(ix) To promote activities and education in the neutron scattering field.
(x) To stimulate, promote and assist in the development of new neutron scattering instruments, at ESS as well as in foreign sources.
Membership is open to anyone interested in neutron spread.
SNSS is chaired by a board consisting of a chairman and at least three members. Geographical and substantive dissemination of members should be sought. At least one of the members shall be a postgraduate doctoral candidate.
The Board elects among its members, chairman, vice chairman and a secretary / webmaster. The Board is elected by the members for a three-year period. However, doctoral students / postdocs are chosen for a one-year period. The Board is elected either at the Annual General Meeting or by a postal vote. Refusal may occur.
4.2 Nomination Committee
A nomination committee, consisting of three members, proposes a new chairman and new members of the Board for the election of the Board. The Nomination Committee is elected either at the Annual General Meeting or by a postal vote. The Nomination Committee is elected for a three-year period.
4.3 General Meetings
Normally a general meeting is held annually. The board may call for extra general meeting. At the request of at least one quarter of the members, the chairman must convene within two months. General meetings may decide on changes in the composition of the Board.
5.1 Membership fee
Membership fee is decided by the Board.
5.2 The Board is financially responsible for the annual meeting.
5.3 Participation in the company's activities.
Participation in the company's activities is normally financed by the participating member unless otherwise stated.
SNSS should be connected to the European Neutron Scattering Association.
Other membership and affiliations are decided by the Board.
Changes to the statutes are made by majority decision at the annual meeting or by postal vote. Proposals for amendments to the articles of association shall be announced three weeks in advance.
